The mission of ecosystem

ecosystem is a producer responsibility organization, i.e. a non-profit company serving the public interest, approved by public authorities and funded through an eco-contribution. As a mission-driven company, ecosystem works to extend the lifespan of household electrical and electronic equipment by supporting repair and reuse.

ecosystem also ensures their recycling once they become waste, as well as that of professional electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, and lamps.

ecosystem in a few figures

699 752
tons of household EEE and lamps collected in 2024, including…

tons of recycled materials
84 390
tons otherwise recovered (fuels, substitute materials)
61 209
tons of materials disposed of in specialized facilities
361 509
tons of ferrous metals
53 034
tons of non-ferrous metals

The engine of sustainable innovation at the heart of the Urban Mines Chair

Funding

As the main patron, ecosystem provides financial support to the Chair. This enables the funding of research projects, educational initiatives, and the implementation of innovative solutions developed within the Chair’s work

Technical expertise

ecosystem provides the Chair with its expertise in the management of electronic waste and materials recycling. Thanks to this contribution, the Chair benefits from in-depth knowledge of the technical and environmental challenges associated with managing rare metals, plastics, and other materials.

Industrial partnerships

It facilitates the establishment of partnerships between the Chair’s researchers and other industrial stakeholders. These collaborations make it possible to test, refine, and deploy concrete solutions within recycling value chains, while supporting researchers and opening up development opportunities

Support for Research and Innovation

It actively contributes to the research projects led by the Chair, particularly in advanced recycling methods, the decontamination of electronic equipment, and the development of new recycling technologies. This includes research on eco-design, sorting processes, and the extraction of rare metals.

Training and awareness-raising

It also supports the Chair in its educational mission, contributing to the training of future professionals in the recycling and circular economy sectors. The Urban Mines Chair trains tomorrow’s leaders, and ecosystem plays a key role in this approach by sharing its expertise.
