A Public Scientific, Cultural and Professional Institution, Chimie ParisTech–PSL (National School of Chemistry of Paris) operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. As a constituent school of PSL University, Chimie ParisTech–PSL is also a founding member of the ParisTech Foundation. The school provides an original and comprehensive excellence-driven education covering the full spectrum of chemistry and materials science, from bachelor’s to doctoral level, while conducting cutting-edge research across all areas of chemistry.

Ranked jointly with PSL University 36th in the 2020 Shanghai Ranking (ARWU) and 46th in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE), the school has been training highly skilled generalist chemical engineers with a strong capacity for innovation for over 120 years. Since its creation, its mission has been to strengthen French industry, on the one hand by training outstanding engineers who serve as a talent pool for companies, and on the other hand by conducting cutting-edge research across all areas of chemistry, from fundamental research to applied science.

Chimie ParisTech–PSL hosts an active and internationally recognized research center, whose laboratories carry out advanced research in energy, materials, industrial processes, and health, in collaboration with companies and major research organizations. The school has around one hundred permanent researchers and faculty members distributed across three laboratories: the Institute of Research of Chimie Paris (IRCP), the Institute of Chemistry for Life and Health Sciences (i-CLeHS), and the Île-de-France Photovoltaic Institute (IPVF).

Their research themes cover a broad range of chemistry fields, including organic chemistry, molecular chemistry and chemistry for life sciences, microreactors, parallel synthesis and flow chemistry, microfluidics, energy, processes, electrochemistry, solid-state physics, optoelectronics, metallurgy, solution chemistry and hydrometallurgy, polymers, and advanced materials.

Chimie ParisTech–PSL is involved in French and European inter-school and inter-university networks. The links established over the years with other schools and universities aim to strengthen cooperation between faculty members, facilitate the development of new academic programs, encourage student exchanges, and expand the school’s national and international visibility.

Vincent SEMETEY – Head of the Urban Mining Chair – CNRS Research Director at the Institute of Research of Chimie Paris (UMR 8247)

Vincent Semetey has been a CNRS Research Director at Chimie ParisTech–PSL since 2012, working on research topics related to chemical processes for raw material recycling. Prior to that, he was a CNRS researcher at the Institut Curie. Since 2014, he has been the lead and scientific coordinator of the Urban Mining Chair and of the research carried out at Chimie ParisTech in this field.

Mariane IGHILAHRIZ – Co-scientific coordinator of the Urban Mining Chair

A graduate of Chimie ParisTech and holder of a PhD on the toxicity of nanomaterials, Mariane worked for 10 years in sustainability consulting. Her responsibilities focused on assessing the environmental and health impacts of human activities, as well as issues related to the circular economy (recycling) and securing supplies of strategic and critical materials.

Today, alongside her role as a consultant, Mariane is responsible for corporate relations at Chimie ParisTech, the school’s Sustainable Development strategy, as well as the scientific coordination of the Urban Mining Chair.

Alyzia NTSAME – Web, social media, and events communications officer for the Urban Mining Chair

Currently a second-year Master’s student in Event Management and Influence, Alyzia joined the Chair last October. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Marketing Project Management from ECS Paris, and now applies her skills to the Chair’s communication strategy.

She is responsible for managing and monitoring social media activity, maintaining and updating the website, as well as organizing the various events led by the Chair.
